In Germany, most of the colleges and universities are funded by the federal government
while some are also financed by the Protestant or Catholic Church. Besides these, there
are about 100 private universities which confer officially recognised degrees at subsided
tuitions or fee. A majority of these universities offer courses in applied sciences and are
thus popular with students seeking a degree in science.
Most students in Germany attend the public universities and merely a small percentage
attend private institutions. Private universities offer almost the same level of education at
a much higher cost. That said, the level of education offered by both, private universities
and government initiatives is excellent.

As in most cases, tuition fees of Master’s program in Germany have their own fees fixed by an individual university. This may range from 650 Euros to several thousand per semester. Regardless of this amount, each student has to pay a certain amount to the university per semester as a contribution towards the university. This is different from the tuition fees and once again varies from university to university.
This is channelized towards administration costs as well as social contribution towards ASTA and Student wellbeing. Several universities also divert this money towards financing tickets so that students can use public transport facilities throughout the semester.
